OU players Jalen Saunders and Cortez Johnson charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana

Saunders, the star receiver in Saturday's win over TCU, and defensive back Johnson were arrested Sunday morning during traffic stop.

NORMAN — According to court documents, Oklahoma's wide receiver Jalen Saunders and defensive back Cortez Johnson were both charged Monday afternoon in Cleveland County with a misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

The two Oklahoma football players were arrested early Sunday morning and booked at the Cleveland County Sheriff's office at 2:34 a.m.

Saunders and Johnson, both 20, were arrested during a traffic stop at Lindsey and Oakhurst in Norman about 2 a.m., sheriff's spokeswoman Megan McCormick said. The vehicle belonged to Saunders, but Johnson was driving, she said.

OU officials still had no comment.

Saunders, a transfer from Fresno State in his first year at Oklahoma, was one of the stars of the Sooners' 24-17 win at TCU on Saturday. Saunders was the Sooners' leading receiver with seven receptions for 108 yards and one touchdown. He has 53 catches for 766 yards and three touchdowns in eight games.

Johnson is sitting out this season after transferring from Arizona, where he was coached by current OU defensive coordinator Mike Stoops.
