Pet kangaroo from Shawnee still missing

The Menhusen family in Shawnee has had several tips come in about its missing pet kangaroo, though the animal remains on the loose.

— For nearly two weeks, sightings of an elusive pet kangaroo have been popping up all over the east side of the metro.

The Menhusen family recently learned that its pet kangaroo, Lucy Sparkles, was spotted north of the family home on Nov. 26, five days after Lucy went missing from their home northeast of Shawnee near Kickapoo and Hazel Dell Road.

A family living north of the Menhusens captured images of the 2-foot-tall, 15 pound red kangaroo grazing beneath a hunting camera used to keep tabs on deer.

Shayla Menhusen said Lucy is likely confused and any attempts to lure or catch her will cause her to flee.

“There are sightings coming in from all over, but the best ones are close to our location near the McLoud area,” she said.

The family received phone calls about two sightings near McLoud on Saturday evening.

“I don't know if we're going to be able to catch her. We may have to trap her or something, but these sightings give us hope,” Menhusen said. “We're definitely ready for her to be home. We so appreciate everyone keeping their eyes open and calling us with information.”

Gig Parker, who has 15 acres near SE 98 and Hiwasee Road, said he's sure he saw Lucy Monday evening as he was driving east on SE 99 in Oklahoma City. He said he spooked several deer that leapt over a barbed wire fence. When he looked down, he saw a smaller animal unlike any he'd ever seen in the area trying to get through the fence.
