Jury convicts man in killing

A jury deliberated about five hours Thursday before convicting a man of first-degree murder in the shooting death of a man in a convenience store parking lot. Joseph C. Young, 22, of Oklahoma City, also was found guilty of assault and battery with a deadly weapon for wounding another man during a confrontation. Dejoun Chamberless, 18, was found shot to death about 9 p.m. Dec. 17 outside Express Gas and Grocery, 6221 W Wilshire Blvd. Young was seen on surveillance video firing two to three shots at Chamberless after he fell to the ground, and confessed to firing the gun at both victims, police said. Young will be sentenced Jan. 23.

Rape brings conviction

A man convicted Thursday of robbing and sexually assaulting a Subway restaurant employee and then taking her car faces up to 140 years in prison when he is sentenced next month. A jury found John Robert Murphy, 30, of Oklahoma City, guilty of first-degree rape, two counts of first-degree robbery, forcible oral sodomy and kidnapping. The employee, 22, was alone about 10:20 a.m. May 27 when the robber walked into the restaurant at 6100 S Western Ave. Prosecutors said Murphy robbed the woman at gunpoint, turned off the lights and sexually assaulted her in the men's restroom. He then took the woman's cellphone and the keys to her car and left. He was arrested after crashing into a tree, police said.

Man accused of sex abuse

Police arrested a man Wednesday after a Department of Human Services worker reported possible sexual assault of children in September. Sharay Tyree Crowder, 39, was arrested on nine complaints of lewd acts with a child under 16. Crowder was booked into the Oklahoma County jail. Bail is set at $500,000. A Department of Human Services worker told police Sept. 14 that a foster mother reported she thought her three foster daughters, ages 7, 6 and 5, had been touched inappropriately. The oldest girl told her foster mother that Crowder molested all three girls, according to the report.
