PONCA CITY — A Ponca City criminal defense attorney pleaded guilty to a reduced drug charge Tuesday and was sentenced to two years in prison, court officials said.
Gale Eugene McArthur II, 44, pleaded guilty in Kay County District Court to possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
His trial was scheduled to begin Tuesday.
Two other charges — unlawful possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute and unlawful use of a communication device to facilitate a felony — were dismissed, court records show.
A charge of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony was dropped after his preliminary hearing.
When McArthur was arrested Dec. 15, 2010, he had an ounce of cocaine in his jacket pocket, according to an affidavit.
Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control spokesman Mark Woodward said at the time an ounce of cocaine is typically not for personal use but would be used for trafficking and distribution.
