Start a new holiday family tradition with activities around Oklahoma

Christmas lights, ice skating, downtown events are in the running for holiday traditions.

There's something about tradition that binds us together as a society, as family. Never is tradition more prevalent than during the holiday season. And from those traditions comes a sense of belonging and comfort.

This holiday season, if you and your family want to expand and create some new fun traditions, I would like to suggest a few ideas that might become a new favorite.

If you are anywhere close to the downtown Oklahoma City area during the holiday season, you cannot be in a bad mood. A series of events has transformed downtown Oklahoma City into a frosty winter wonderland called Downtown in December, presented by Devon.

If you spot the Segway Santa, I dare you not to smile!

And speaking of smiling, whether you ice skate or not at the Devon Ice Skating rink at the Myriad Gardens, you'll enjoy the atmosphere.

And there's more winter whimsy nearby at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark where the Chesapeake snow tubing will most certainly keep you smiling and screaming with excitement as you make a run down the fast slopes. Don't forget to enjoy a free water taxi ride down the Bricktown Canal where you can see the beautiful lights courtesy of OneMain Financial.

Downtown Tulsa also comes alive with holiday activities with the Fifth Annual Arvest Winterfest presented with the Lobeck Taylor Family Foundation. In a very short time, Winterfest has become amazingly popular and continues to attract a record number of visitors. Skating is a favorite pastime as well as watching free entertainment on the outdoor stage.
