WALTERS — Authorities say an Oklahoma man charged in the death of a Cotton County woman has been found dead in his jail cell.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says 50-year-old David Daniel died in a suspected suicide Thursday morning. OSBI's Richard Goss says Daniel was found by a trusty who was serving breakfast at about 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

Goss says authorities believe Daniel hung himself using a ligature fashioned out of underwear.

Daniel was charged with first-degree murder in the January death of Teresa Speir.

Goss tells a local newspaper that surveillance video did not capture Daniel's death but that it showed Daniel writing in a notepad shortly before he died. He says no suicide note was recovered but authorities are still reviewing paperwork found in Daniel's cell.
