EDMOND — All 690 students at Orvis Risner Elementary School in Edmond received free gifts from Santa.

Santa’s visit was just one of the many events that took place at the school on Friday during the Orvis Risner Winter Extravaganza.

Students kicked off the day with carnival games in the school gym and at New Covenant Church west of the school.

Later, the students returned to their classrooms, where teachers read the children’s classic and holiday favorite, “The Mitten,” by Jan Brett.

The day came to a close with a surprise visit from Santa, who gave out books, board games and sporting goods.
