Oklahoma treasurer: Economic growth continues, slows

Published: January 3, 2013

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Treasurer Ken Miller says Oklahoma's economy is continuing to improve, but the pace slowed both last month and in 2012.

Miller released revenue figures Thursday that show overall receipts in December exceeded those from the same month in 2011 by 1.5 percent. That marks the eighth time in 2012 where monthly collections outpaced those from the same month of the prior year.

Miller said December sales tax collections, which reflect sales from mid-November to mid-December, were nearly 6 percent higher than those during the previous holiday season.

Overall, total gross revenue collections for 2012 totaled $11.1 billion, an increase of 3.8 percent over collections in 2011.

Miller also cited figures from the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission that show Oklahoma added 60,000 jobs in 2012.
