NORMAN

Neighborhood entrance to close

Beginning Monday, the entrance at Porter Avenue to the Highland Village neighborhood will be closed so a contractor can reconstruct pavement and add drainage improvements. All residents and visitors will need to detour to Tecumseh Meadows Drive onto Tecumseh Meadows Way, following it around to Skye Ridge Drive to get to Highland Village Drive. The work should be completed in about three weeks.

Author to host book release

Oklahoma author Rilla Askew will host a book release party from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in Rooms A and B of the Norman Public Library, 225 N Webster Ave. Askew is releasing her newest work, “Kind of Kin,” and will read from it at 7 p.m. Askew will sign books following the reading. The event is the first national release party to be hosted at the library.

Restaurant throws Elvis party

Chuy's will pay tribute to rock 'n' roll legend Elvis Presley with its annual Birthday Bash on Tuesday at its Norman location, 760 N Interstate Drive. The restaurant's Jailhouse Rock-themed party will feature all-day special pricing on Elvis-inspired entrees. Guests are invited to come dressed as Elvis or Priscilla to receive a free entree. Limited edition T-shirts will be on sale, as well as door prizes.

Barbara Boyd to speak

Barbara S. Boyd, director of the University of Oklahoma's outreach program for religious studies, will speak at 7 p.m. Jan. 17 at the United Ministry Center, 1017 Elm Ave. Boyd teaches in the area of Christian and biblical studies and is an ordained Presbyterian clergy member. The lecture is free.
