The Oklahoma City Home & Garden show comes to State Fair Park this weekend, bringing together more than 500 local and national exhibitors offering up the latest and greatest in home and garden products, services and techniques.

The three-day show starts at noon Friday with Hero Day. Current military, police and fire personnel with valid service IDs will receive free admission.

The show will feature Ahmed Hassan of HGTV and DIY Network's “Yard Crashers.” On the TV show, Hassan recruits unsuspecting homeowners at home improvement shows for major landscaping makeovers.

Hassan will offer four presentations in which he'll give advice about earth-friendly landscaping, gardening on a budget and increasing your home's value through landscaping. He describes his presentations as a mixture of stand-up comedy, story telling and a horticulture class.

“I really see what we do as landscapers and gardeners as art,” Hassan said. “What we're doing is taking elements, glimpses, little snapshots of what we see as beautiful in nature and we're trying to imitate and recreate that in our own little personal spaces. Ideally, we're trying to make it look natural, not contrived.”

Keeping his landscapes looking natural is a trademark of Hassan's landscape design concept. He said he loves to educate people about his favorite topic: Horticulture.

“Horticulture is something mankind has been doing since the beginning of time,” Hassan said in a news release. “We've always lived off the earth and now we don't even know how to keep a houseplant alive. We need to get back to basics.”
