— Longtime customers are in for a surprise this summer when they return to Reno Swim and Slide.

Midwest City's swimming pool at E Reno Avenue and S Douglas Boulevard is being renovated for the first time since the 1970s, according to Steve Anderson, the Parks and Recreation Department's aquatics supervisor.

Anderson said improvements are being made to the clubhouse, restrooms, chemical room and snack bar, and more lifeguard stands are being built.

New features include air conditioning that will be available at the work stations, and a microwave and refrigerator for everyone to use, Anderson said.

Anderson said total cost of the improvements is $1.2 million, which came from a capital improvement fund.

“It's an upgrade. A quality-of-life issue,” Anderson said.

He said the pool gets 50,000 visits every year.

“It's more like a water park. There are slides, diving boards, a kiddie pool and a climbing wall,” Anderson said.

Anderson said Midwest City Parks and Recreation will start taking applications for lifeguards March 1.

Construction is expected to be completed by April 26 so the pool can be open to the public by May 24.

Admission is $3 for children 5 and younger, $6 for ages 6 to 54 and $3 for adults 55 years or older.
