Oklahoma forms commission to evaluate school safety

Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb will lead the nonpartisan Oklahoma Commission on School Security. Lamb is a former U.S. Secret Service agent.

“Our children deserve safe and secure learning environments, and this commission is committed to doing just that,” Lamb said in a statement Wednesday. “Each commission member brings experience from their respective field that will generate ideas and solutions to enhance school security.”

The group will meet first at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 22 in Room 419-C of the Capitol. For more information or to submit ideas, call Lamb's office at 521-2161.

In addition to Lamb, 22 committee members were named:

• Gary Armbruster, principal architect at MA+ Architecture, an Oklahoma City-based firm.

• Phil Armstrong, assistant pastor at Metropolitan Baptist Church in Tulsa.

• Retired Maj. Gen. Lee Baxter, member of the state Board of Education.

• Maj. James Blocker, director of emergency medical services for the Oklahoma City Fire Department.

• Sharon Brady, assistant director of special education for Lawton Public Schools.
