Prayer services focus on unity

A prayer service to commemorate the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is set for Sunday, Jan. 20, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 10600 N Council Road.

“What Does God Require of Us?” is the theme of a prayer service set for 4 p.m. Sunday Jan. 20 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 10600 N Council Road.

The prayer service, presented by the Oklahoma Alliance for Liturgy and the Arts, commemorates the 2013 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.

The public is invited to attend the service.

Guest speakers include the Rt. Rev. Edward Konieczny, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Oklahoma, and the Rev. Michael Girlinghouse, bishop of the Arkansas-Oklahoma Synod of the Evangelistic Lutheran Church of America.

In addition to the speakers' presentations, the service will include music, prayer and sacred readings.

The Rev. Stephen Bird, president of the Oklahoma Alliance for Liturgy and the Arts, said this year marks the 106th annual observance of the Week of Prayer, which began in 1908. He said the observance lasts eight days, beginning on Jan. 18 and concluding on Jan. 25.
