Recruits report to Oklahoma City police academy

Recruits in the 130th Oklahoma City Police Academy reported to training Friday to begin a seven-month process of becoming police officers.

Of the 56 recruits, 48 are male and eight are female. The youngest recruit is 21 and the oldest is 45. The average age of the class is 27.

Ten of the recruits have military experience, 10 have law enforcement experience and seven are bilingual.

The academy will run through Aug. 1. The recruits will receive more than 1,000 hours of training on a wide variety of law enforcement duties including: physical fitness, traffic accident investigation, patrol techniques, legal issues, firearms, law enforcement driver training, community relations and criminal investigations. They also will receive 70 hours of Spanish language instruction.
