Fire crews were called to the Eagle Point Apartments, 5808 E. 71st St., around 1:30 a.m.

Fifteen fire apparatus were dispatched to battle flames at the Eagle Point Apartments, 5808 E. 71st St., on Wednesday.

The blaze had spread from an upstairs apartment into the attic and was well on its way to the building’s other units by the time firefighters arrived, said Fire Capt. Stan May. A partition in the middle of the building helped contain the fire to one half of the structure, but the other side sustained smoke and water damage.
