Perhaps the most common household appliance, a TV presents a unique storage problem.
When it's idle, no one wants to see it. But when it's on, everyone wants a good view.
That's where this handsome TV cabinet project comes in. Designed to fit snugly in a corner, it keeps the TV neatly out of sight when not in use, and in a space that's easy to see from almost anywhere else in the room.
The project features clean lines and classic styling that conceal a 32-inch tall by 30-inch wide by 18-inch deep bay for the TV, as well as a removable shelf for a DVD player, a satellite or cable box, or a game console. Below the TV bay, a big, full-extension storage drawer holds DVDs, video games and remote controls.
Made primarily of oak plywood (as pictured; other woods also will work), the cabinet calls for all straight cuts and simple construction techniques. Although the project requires careful measuring and cutting, full-scale drawings and detailed diagrams eliminate the guesswork.
The completed TV cabinet measures about 47 inches tall by 29 inches deep.
The Corner TV Cabinet plan, No. 864, is $9.95 and includes step-by-step instructions with photos, full-size traceable patterns, detailed construction diagrams, a materials list and cutting layout and a toll-free help line for project questions.
A package of television cabinet plans, No. C156, is $22.95 and includes plans for this project, a larger-scale television cabinet and an armoire-style entertainment center. Please include $4 per order (not per item) for postage and handling and allow about two weeks for delivery.
