Man to stand

trial in death

A Delaware County man will stand trial in the stabbing and fatal shooting death of his former girlfriend, a prosecutor said Monday. Dustin Everett Boggs, 24, is charged in Ottawa County District Court with first-degree murder in the death of Danyel Borden, 21, of California. Court records show Boggs' last known address is a homeless shelter in Miami, OK. During a four-hour preliminary hearing Thursday, testimony showed Borden was stabbed several times in the chest, her throat was slashed and she was shot in the head, said District Attorney Eddie Wyant. Her body was found June 14 on a rural road near Quapaw. Boggs is to return to court for arraignment March 1.

Nephew gets

prison term

A Craig County man was sentenced Monday to eight years in prison for the beating death of his uncle. Zachary Eugene Deitrick, 21, of Vinita, pleaded guilty to manslaughter Dec. 17 in Garvin County District Court. Police were called to the Wynnewood home of the uncle, Gregory Cook, in May 2011. Cook died en route to the hospital. Deitrick was credited for time served, court records show.

Resident shot

in robbery

A man shot in his home Friday night was in good condition Monday afternoon, an OU Medical Center spokesman said. Phillip Thomas Wren, 24, was found shot multiple times about 11 p.m. at 3315 Woodsboro Drive, Norman police said. Police think robbery was the motive because some personal property was taken. They are looking for three men — two white men and a black man. The black man approached the house while the two white men fired on Wren near the front door, Norman police Capt. Tom Easley said. Anyone with information is asked to call Norman Crime Stoppers at 366-7867 or Detective Gary Hopcus at 321-1600.

Bat fight

brings arrest

A baseball bat fight between neighbors ended with one man in jail, Oklahoma City police said Monday. Joseph A. Gutierrez, 42, was arrested on a complaint of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon about 3:45 p.m. Friday after the incident at 212 N Blackwelder. Police say Gutierrez walked into the house of Cirenio Torres, 46, and appeared to be drunk. Torres yelled at Gutierrez to get out of his house and tried to push him out the door after he acted aggressively. Gutierrez fell on Torres' 9-month-old stepson, which prompted Torres to start punching him, the police report said. Gutierrez left, but returned with a baseball bat. Torres grabbed a bat of his own and the two men fought with baseball bats. Police said Gutierrez had significant head injuries, so he was taken to the hospital and treated before being taken to jail. Torres, who had injuries to his hand and face, told police he would drive himself to the hospital.
