Former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was a surprise witness at Wednesday’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on how to reduce gun violence.
She told members of the committee that “speaking is difficult, but I need to say something important. Violence is a big problem.” Watch the video above for her full statement.
Giffords, a former Arizona Democrat, suffered a severe head wound in a 2011 shooting outside of a Tucson supermarket. Six people were killed and 12 others wounded, according to The Associated Press.
