Edmond neighbors are critical of proposed retail, housing development
EDMOND — Traffic, water pressure and renters in the neighborhood were among concerns expressed this week by 14 residents who oppose a commercial and duplex development near Oak Ridge Drive and Second Street.
The Hansen Family Trust wants to change the zoning from restricted commercial to a planned unit development so it can build a 24,000-square-foot retail shopping center on 5.55 acres on the southern half of the property.
The developer also wants to build duplexes with 10 buildings and 20 units on 4.38 acres to the north in what is to be called Bradbury Station.
Council members voted 2-2 on the planned amendment. Council member Darrell Davis was out of state on personal business.
“This goes nowhere,” Mayor Charles Lamb said after the split vote.
Todd McKinnis, attorney for the trust and Leonard Hanson, asked that the application be heard at the Feb. 11 city council meeting when all members are presented. Council members agreed.
Windsong housing addition is located to the north and Mason Oaks housing addition to the northeast. Ridge Point housing addition, to the east, is a higher-density development than the proposed duplexes, City Planner Bob Schiermeyer said.
