OU football recruiting: December phone call was all Christian Daimler needed to commit to Sooners
After an early visit to Oklahoma, Houston Stratford offensive tackle Christian Daimler decided he liked the OU program.
Daimler placed the Sooners in his top two programs after making the early rounds to camps and junior days.
But he had to wait for Oklahoma to become serious about recruiting him.
By October, though, Daimler wasn't sure that was going to happen.
So a few weeks after visiting Arizona State, Daimler committed to the Sun Devils.
In mid-December, though, things turned around after a late-night conversation with Sooners offensive line coach James Patton.
Even as Daimler remained committed to Arizona State, he held out hope Oklahoma would offer.
When Patton mentioned near the end of the conversation that the Sooners were offering Daimler, it didn't take long for things to swing into motion.
By the next morning, he'd called Arizona State coaches to inform them he was no longer committed.
That afternoon, he committed to the Sooners.
Daimler remains the only high school offensive lineman committed to the Sooners entering signing day.
The same day as Daimler's commitment, though, the Sooners added junior college offensive tackle Josiah St. John and OU recently picked up a commitment from offensive guard Dionte Savage.
