With sophomore Jordan Phillips as the only returning defensive tackle with experience for the Sooners in 2013, there was little surprise Oklahoma made the position a priority for this year's class.

The group of defensive tackles for the 2013 class came together late, with none committing before Dec. 14.

The latest of the four-man group to join was Port Arthur (Texas) Memorial's Matt Romar, who committed Jan. 28.

Romar picked the Sooners over TCU, Tulsa and Baylor among others.

He visited Tulsa the weekend before his visit to Norman but once he was at OU and received the offer, there wasn't much to think about.

Romar (6-foot-3, 268 pounds) had 60 tackles as a senior, with 12 for loss and eight sacks. He was named the District 21-5A Defensive Most Valuable Player and was an honorable mention Class 5A All-Stater.

Romar, the smallest of the four defensive tackle commits, also saw some time at running back during high school.

He figures to be a player that might need some time to develop before being ready to contribute for the Sooners.
