State college recruiting: Westmoore's Jhames West will switch to defense at East Central University
Westmoore football standout Jhames West signed his letter of intent to attend East Central University in Ada. The speedy 6-foot, 183-pound West received most of his recruiting attention for his play at quarterback and wide receiver. However, he will move permanently to the defensive side of the ball and play cornerback for the Tigers.

West talked with The Oklahoman on signing day about the recruiting process, playing cornerback, and a fellow Westmoore teammate heading to East Central.
How does it feel to have this out of the way and be officially going to East Central?
“I'm very excited to get this out of way, just because the last month of the recruiting process is so tough. You have to pick a school and you don't want to make the wrong decision. I feel good about the decision I made and I'm just ready to get on with the next chapter in my life.”
What made things so difficult for you at the end of the recruiting process?
“It was a little weird for me, because playing receiver I had a lot of the big schools looking at me and then I moved to quarterback and that changed things a little bit. It made my decision tougher having to realize that I was going to have to go to a D-2 school and not play receiver.”
You're going to play cornerback at East Central, is that what you wanted to do?
“Playing corner isn't necessarily what I wanted to do, but my main thing is I want to play. Wherever that is I'm fine with it. No, it's not what I want to do, but I'm going to adapt and have fun with it.”
You have a teammate, linebacker Josh Morgan, going to ECU with you. How excited are you to continue playing with him?
“I'm very excited. My relationship with Josh is one of a kind. We are very close and we're going to room together. It's going to be fun, I can't wait.”
