Oklahoma basketball notebook: Sunrise in Sooner Nation as OU beats Kansas

“Buddy and I have been dreaming about this day since he signed,” said Kyle Lindstead, who coached Hield at Sunrise and attended Saturday's game.

Hield had received an offer from Kansas, but they recruited him more lightly than Oklahoma.

After the game, Hield met with players and friends from back home in Wichita, Kan., before sending them off.

“Bye, Buddy,” a group of little kids shouted. “We'll be back in seven years.”

T-C-U?

By the end of Saturday's game, Oklahoma students were chanting a new school's name.

The OU student section started a “T-C-U” chant right before tipoff.

On Wednesday, the Jayhawks suffered a seven-point loss to new Big 12 member TCU, which was previously winless in the conference.

The cheer revived when Kansas center Jeff Withey was taking free throws during the first half.

By the end of the game, the Sooner faithful were cheering OU and jumping around after storming the court as “Jump Around” blared through the Lloyd Noble Center sound system.

Kansas, which lost to Oklahoma State on Feb. 2, has now lost three straight games for the first time since February 2005.
