The Big 12 standings suddenly appear crowded at the top, with Kansas State out front and five others within two games of the lead.

OSU, sitting one game behind K-State, is the league's hottest team, riding a five-game conference winning streak. Now on the doorstep, can the Cowboys win the championship?

“I think we've got an opportunity,” said coach Travis Ford. “There's a looong way to go. A long way to go. As of today, we've got a shot. If we keep winning, we've got a shot.

“I haven't put a whole lot of thought in it. We talk about trying to stay at the top. We talked early in the year about trying to win a Big 12 championship. We're talking a lot right now about trying to stay at the top and giving ourselves a chance, maybe.”

Wednesday: at Texas Tech, 6 p.m.

Saturday: Oklahoma, 12:45 p.m.

Feb. 20: Kansas, 8 p.m.

The Cowboys are working on distancing themselves from the road struggles recent seasons.

After winning at Kansas, then Texas, OSU now has a two-game conference road winning streak. And the Pokes will be favored Wednesday night at Texas Tech, which is just 1-4 at home.

Ford, however, shrugged off the accomplishment Saturday in Austin.

“I never thought about it as much as some other people did, as far as panicking,” he said. “We always knew we hadn't won, we'd had our struggles. I'm not sitting here saying it's cured or anything, either. “In today's age, it's all based on what have you done the last game. I get that.”

Ford had never won at KU or Texas. In the span of eight days, he won in both locales.
