Monday was one of my favorite days as NewsOK’s Digital Managing Editor.
Why? We didn’t win an award that day, and we didn’t have a record day for web traffic.
No. Monday ranked so high because it was a great day for our audience. We launched a new website that is a drastic improvement for our fastest-growing segment of readers.
Here’s why I like it so much:
- It more accurately reflects the full website, but presents it in mobile-friendly display.
- It allows us to post mobile-specific content when appropriate.
- The articles will showcase our depth of multimedia content, including photos and videos.
- Our inside section fronts offer more than just a feed of stories, giving the user much more variety
So I’m excited about this upgrade to our product. Sure, we already had a mobile site. It really wasn’t a bad site. It was easy to use and easy to navigate. Compared to most other news websites, I think our previous mobile site was well above average.
But we felt we were past due in giving that fast-growing audience a richer experience as they browse NewsOK. The previous site just didn’t show the depth of content that we are now able to show for our smart-phone users. So now, with our new mobile site, I honestly believe we have the best in the business.
And they will tell you that we aren’t done.
Because of the way they built this version of NewsOK, you will now begin to see more features rolled out to our mobile audience through the rest of this year and beyond.
And that part — the part about the future of NewsOK Mobile — is what made Monday such a happy day for me.
