Singer-composer Jimmy Webb will conduct a free master class at 1 p.m. March 26 at the Rodeo Opry, 2221 Exchange Ave.

“A Conversation with Jimmy Webb” will be held before Webb's sold-out concert at 7 p.m. at Oklahoma City Community College's Bruce Owen Theater. The performance will close out OCCC's 2012-2013 Cultural Arts Series.

Webb, an Oklahoma native, has composed and performed timeless pop, country and rock classics such as “Galveston,” “Wichita Lineman,” “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” “The Highwayman” and many more. His hits have been performed by Glen Campbell, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Linda Ronstadt, Carly Simon and many others.

A critically acclaimed composer for more than 40 years, Webb's accomplishments include Grammy Awards for music, lyrics and orchestration; induction into the National Academy of Popular Music Songwriter's Hall of Fame; the Nashville Songwriter's Hall of Fame; and, according to Broadcast Music Inc., Webb's “By The Time I Get To Phoenix,” was the third-most-performed song from the '60s until 1990, with “Up, Up and Away” on the same list in the top 30.

Webb's “Wichita Lineman” has been listed in the top 50 of MOJO Magazine's worldwide survey of the best 100 singles of all time and was singled out in the October/November 2001 issue of Blender as “The Greatest Song Ever.” Singer/songwriter James Taylor was nominated for a Grammy in 2010 for “Best Male Pop Vocal” for his rendition of the song.
