For three quarters, Addy Clift helped keep Kiowa in its Class A state tournament opener against Fort Cobb-Broxton.

In the fourth, Clift took over.

The sophomore scored 13 of her game-high 31 in the final quarter, lifting the Cowgirls to a 55-47 win at Oklahoma City University’s Abe Lemons Arena.

Kiowa advanced to the semifinals for the first time since 2007.

“We kind of started off pretty rough but then we settled down and turned things around,” Clift said. “We started going to the boards hard and grabbing more rebounds and then things started going well for us.”

The Cowgirls (23-7) will play the winner of tonight’s Pond Creek-Hunter/Cheyenne game at 9 p.m. Friday at State Fair Arena.

The game was back and forth until the final two minutes when Fort Cobb-Broxton started fouling Kiowa in an attempt to get back in the game.

Fort Cobb-Broxton lost a starter near the end of warmups when Danielle Hammons went down with an apparent ankle injury, briefly delaying the start of the game.

Freshman Aimee Wetselline, who has played a big role off the bench for the Lady Mustangs, stepped in to starting lineup.

Hammons did come in to play but was limited by the injury.

Wetselline had a game-high 13 rebounds.

Jordan Armstrong added 12 points for Kiowa.

Sydney DeVaughan led Fort Cobb with 19 points while Mallory Clift added 11.
