Class B boys: Coyle ousts No. 1 Forgan

Coyle center Tony Aska Jr. scored 22 points and had 11 rebounds as the Bluejackets ousted two-time defending state champion and No. 1 Forgan, 65-57, Thursday night at State Fair Arena.

Aska, who was 8 of 10 from the field and 6 of 7 from the free throw line, also had six blocks in the game. Aska said Coyle’s victory was no upset.

“We came in here to win and that’s what we did,” he said.

His cousin, guard Eric Harris, added 19 points and dished out four assists as No. 5 Coyle advances to meet No. 3 Red Oak at 7:30 p.m. Friday at State Fair Arena in the semifinals.

“He keeps the double teams off of me,” Aska said of Harris. “You can’t double team two people.”

Chandler Bryer led Forgan with 17 points and Jace Kerr added 15.

Forgan led just once in the game, 13-12, and trailed 28-22 at halftime. Forgan closed to within 45-43 on a three-pointer by Bryer with 6:27 left in the game, but could get no closer.

Coyle, 24-4, had a 51-47 lead when the Bluejackets ran off six straight points to take command on a bucket by Harris and two by Aska.

Forgan, 26-3, was never closer than seven points the rest of the way. Coyle scored its final eight points of the game from the free throw line, finishing 12 of 18 in the game.
