Church to host musical events

First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City will usher in the month of March with nine special musical events beginning on Sunday. Each event will be a part of “March Music Madness.”

“Since Holy Week falls in March this year, we decided to follow basketball's lead and host several musical events during the month to carry us through to Easter,” said Bruce Greer, the church's minister of music and worship.

Grammy award-winning vocalist Cynthia Clawson, her husband, Ragan Courtney, and a dramatic troupe will present “Celebrate Life: The Musical” at 10:30 a.m. March 17. Also, Clawson will perform in concert at 6 p.m. March 17. “The Last Supper: A Musical” will be presented at the Maundy Thursday Communion Service set for 7 p.m. March 28. All events are free. ‘The Sound of Music' offered

A production of “The Sound of Music” continues through March 24 at the Poteet Theatre at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 222 NW 15. Performances of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical will be at 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Sunday matinee performances begin at 3 p.m. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased by calling the theater's box office at 609-1023 or by going to www.poteettheatre.com.

Music groups to lead services

Two Oklahoma Baptist University ensembles will help lead worship in Oklahoma Baptist churches on Sunday. David's Creed, OBU's praise ensemble, will lead the morning worship service at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Pawhuska, 302 E Sixth St. in Pawhuska. The University Chorale, one of OBU's premier vocal ensembles, will sing during the 10:50 a.m. Sunday service at Chisholm Heights Baptist Church, 2243 W State Highway 152 in Mustang. The Chorale also will perform at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Enid, 401 W Main in Enid.
