Two Edmond men who were driving a friend to the hospital because he was overdosing on black tar heroin were arrested, Oklahoma City police reported Friday.

John Bond, 26, and Ryan Brittain, 25, were arrested Sunday on complaints of public drunkenness. Bond also was arrested on a warrant.

About 12:45 a.m., officers pulled over Bond, who was driving his pickup almost 100 mph on Memorial Road toward Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City, police said.

The officers escorted the car to the emergency room because a third man in the car was overdosing on black tar heroin, according to the police report.

Bond told officers the man injected the heroin while in his truck outside of The Dugout Bar and Grill and then became unresponsive.

Officers searched Bond's truck and found a spoon with black tar residue and several unused hypodermic needles.

Both Bond and Brittain were booked into the Oklahoma County jail and later released.
