There aren't a whole lot of classes that look more wide open entering this weekend's state tournaments than Class 5A boys.
Bishop McGuinness is No. 1, but the Irish lost in the area finals before bouncing back Saturday night with a win over Del City.
“That may have been the second-best game we played all year,” McGuinness coach Tondrell Durham said of the win over Del City.
But Durham, whose team is coming off a 5A title, said the field was dangerous.
“There's a pretty deep field,” Durham said. “There's a lot of teams that have plenty of experience being here and then you've got a few new faces like Chickasha and Noble.
“I've looked at both of those teams on film and they're both very well coached.”
BREWER'S CELEBRATION CUT SHORT
Friday night, Southeast coach Walter Brewer was on a high Friday night after his team clinched its first state tournament berth since 2008 with a win over Carl Albert.
The celebration didn't last long, though.
Brewer's brother-in-law, Terry Johnson, was killed in a one-car accident near Lavaca, Ark., on Saturday.
