Hospital records found in pallets sent to newspaper

PONCA CITY -- There was more to this stack of wooden pallets than expected.
The Ponca City News received the pallets last week for recycling cardboard and paper. But in the pallets was a stack of records from St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa.

The News reported that the records contained information from procedures that were performed in February. They were intact and, according to the News, contained "highly personal information about patients and procedures."
Officials at the company that delivers the pallets were surprised. They said items they receive from the hospital for recycling are locked in containers and never are shipped loose.
They said the date of the records gave no indication that they were scheduled to be destroyed.
News officials stored the records until hospital and recycling company officials recovered them.
