A 12-year-old Moore elementary school student was arrested by Oklahoma City police Monday after he brought a loaded handgun to school, police said.

Tanner Ray Jones, a sixth-grader at Sky Ranch Elementary, 9501 S Western Ave., was arrested about 9:45 a.m. on a felony complaint of possession of a firearm on school grounds, police Capt. Dexter Nelson said. He was taken Monday to the Cleveland County jail.

Sky Ranch is in the Moore School District but is within Oklahoma City limits.

Nelson said the gun, which apparently belonged to Jones' grandfather, was a .45 caliber and was loaded with a full clip.

Moore school officials released a statement Monday confirming the arrest.

Nelson said Jones showed the gun to several other students in one of the school's restrooms, and one of them told a school staff member.

He said he does not think anyone was threatened, and police don't know whether Jones intended to use the weapon. has disabled the comments for this article.
