News of the day – renegade tortoises and neutered cats
Enid police are looking for this couple, who they suspect took a dog from the city animal shelter while the animal control officer was distracted by other customers. Apparently they didn't know dogs are available for adoption.
Crime. Police are looking for two people, pictures here, in connection with a dog-napping from the Enid animal shelter. The thiefs apparently didn’t know the dogs are there for the taking.
Entertainment. Filming begins for the movie “Bringing Up Bobby.” The project is set to wrap up next month, when apparently Bobby will be entirely brought up.
Pets. The Central Oklahoma Humane Society wins a $30,000 grant to sterilize feral cats. Domesticated cats laugh in their faces.
Danger. Three school children recover five lost endangered tortoises that vanished from a breeder’s home in Yukon. The boys tracked the turtle after a very long, dangerous, low-speed chase.
Education. Rose State College starts a textbook rental program. Great. Now how can the bookstore rip off broke college kids?
Randomness. The University of Oklahoma installs a 3,000-pound bronze bell to ring in the school year. A giant bronze bell: exactly what high school seniors look for in a college.
Names. Ethan and Isabella are the top baby names in Oklahoma in 2009. Mia was the top baby name at our house in 2009.
Animals. Updating the giraffe barn at the Tulsa Zoo will cost about $170,000. About $160,000 of that is for their necks alone.
