Prescription drugs and Austin Box

Our two front-page stories today about Austin Box are so heart-breaking.

I wrote a story that ran July 5 about a statewide database of prescription drugs that helps doctors and pharmasists detect people who are abusing medicine. I interviewed several people for this story, and there was a recurring theme among all the interviews. Everyone said that legitimate prescriptions can lead to something more sinister for some people. It starts out with a real injury – real pain – and spirals into addiction. It’s just so sad.
