Do you want to be president? Learn to use commas.

I get lots of random press releases, but one from former Louisiana Gov. Buddy Roemer caught my eye. Mr. Roemer is apparently running for president, and he’s quite upset about being excluded from the Republican primary ballot in Florida. Polls show he has support of 1 percent of likely Republican primary voters. Anyway, regardless of all this brouhaha, I just love the first paragraph of his press release, which is just a statement from Mr. Roemer.

It is not only disheartening, but it is truly disappointing, that the greatest nation on earth, the model for all democracies abroad, still selects their President through a shady, archaic and behind closed doors system.

Um, what? If you want to be the leader of the free world, please learn to use commas first. I’m not perfect, but I’m not running for president.
