Interested in buying a house? They are pretty cheap right now. The Urban League is hosting a series of free workshops next week to help potential home buyers make a game plan. Here’s some info from them:

The Urban League will host a four-part homebuyer education luncheon series Monday, January 24 through Thursday, January 28, 2011. The workshops will be held at the Urban League, 3900 N. Martin Luther King.

The sessions are held daily from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m., are taught by real estate, property, financial, and mortgage professionals. The curriculum covers money management, credit issues, mortgages, budgeting, home maintenance, loan processes, closing procedures, and avoiding foreclosures. Participants completing the series will also earn a certificate that can be used for various down payment assistance programs.

Series topics will be as follows:

Monday, Jan. 24 – HOMEOWNERSHIP ASSESSMENT Pros and Cons Overview of the Home Buying Process Housing Affordability

Tuesday, Jan. 25 – WORKING WITH LENDERS Lender Decision making Qualifying The Process

Wednesday, Jan. 26 – HOME SHOPPING The Teams The Options The Negotiations

Thursday, Jan. 27 – DOWNPAYMENT and BEYOND Public and Private programs Maintenance Responsibilities of a Homeowner

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday attendance is required for admittance to the final workshop on Thursday.
