Lankford to run least efficiently named congressional group

In case you hadn’t heard, Oklahoma’s new guy in Congress, Rep. James Lankford, is going to be heading up a subcommittee at the nation’s capitol. For a freshman congressman, this is a pretty big deal. So congrats to him!

But what I seriously love is the name of this group: the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee on Technology, Information Policy, Intergovernmental Relations and Procurement Reform.

Maybe congress should consider a subcommittee on name shortening?

I bet children everywhere dream of one day running that committee. I imagine this discussion:

Kindergarten teacher: “What do you want to be when you grow up?”

Five-year-old: ”Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee on Technology, Information Policy, Intergovernmental Relations and Procurement Reform!”

Teacher: “Really? I mean, seriously? Not a fireman? Or a doctor? Ballerina, astronaut, cowboy?”

Five-year-old: “No way! There’s nothing so wonderful as being chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee on Technology, Information Policy, Intergovernmental Relations and Procurement Reform!”

Teacher: “Yeah.”
