Law enforcement officers have been helping to raise money for Major John Waldenville, the sheriff’s deputy who was shot in the head while working a job as a security guard. Sheriff John Whetsel sent out this statement today:

Amazing just seems inadequate to describe today.

Today John had successful surgery to deal with some eye issues. He no longer has to rely on the ventilator to breathe and continues to make progress.

At the Tuesday evening Tip-A-Cop fundraiser at Old Chicago Restaurant, 7301 SE 29, Midwest City, we had hoped to raise $3000. The restaurant was packed all evening, we had a lot of employees waiting on tables and many other employees showed up to eat. Thanks to the generosity of Old Chicago, our employees and our citizens, when the night was over $12,000 had been raised for John. WOW!!! A special thanks to Eric Haskins who came up with the idea.

We have a Sheriff’s Office with really great employees. We serve a county with really great citizens. THANK YOU!!!
