— The developer of a proposed 193-lot housing addition at Midwest Boulevard and Covell Road will meet Thursday with nearby property owners opposing the 140.33-acre project.

The community connection meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in Room 222 at the Downtown Community Center, 28 E Main.

Dodson Properties 2 wants to build homes averaging 2,000 square feet in size with minimum lot size of 6,000 square feet. Most of the lots will be larger.

The addition, to be named Thunder Canyon, would be south of Covell Road and east of Midwest Boulevard.

The first phase of the development would be on the northwest corner of the property.

Neighbors to the east in Redbud Canyon and homeowners on Covell Road oppose the project.

Nearby property owners said they don't like the density of the proposed development, which will be divided into two sections with the flood plain running down the middle and a bridge running from one side to the other.

They also are concerned about light pollution and flooding along Covell. Some property owners don't like the idea of an emergency exit road on the northeast portion of the property and near the homes on Covell Road.

The preliminary plat was expected to be considered by planning commissioners Feb. 5 and Tuesday, but was delayed both times to allow time for the community connection meeting.
