In 1974, I attended what I believe was Classen's homecoming football game at Taft Stadium and was shocked to see a black player crown a white queen at halftime. Maybe they even kissed. I had just moved to The City from Texas, and that could never have happened down there. Can anyone tell me I wasn't dreaming? Details?

Many a Friday nights were spent in that stadium under the lights. Great memories! Several years ago our son, Brett, played on that field. He was the slot receiver on Dallas HSAA. They played the OKC Patriots. They are two home school teams. It was fun to walk into the stadium once again after some 45 years. Thanks for the photographs. Once a Knight .... always a Knight!

Excellent work as always, Mr. Hoke. Living just two blocks west of the stadium, I grew up dreaming of gridiron glory as a kid, playing neighborhood football at twilight as the Knights or JM Bears played home games at Taft Stadium. Still a superb example of functional, WPA craftsmanship. Sad to see it go. Especially liked the photo of the Knight player and his girl making the trek across May Avenue back to the NWC Locker Room. When is Homecoming Game?

Wow, I don't think I have ever seen this many comments on an Alternate Crop blog.
Director of Photography Doug Hoke started his career at The Oklahoman and Times as a part-timer December 1976. After just his third semester at Central State University (now University of Central Oklahoma). Hoke was moved onto the full-time staff...
