Latta used strong performances from junior Brady Johnson and seniors Trent Storts and Jake Collins to get a 58-43 victory over Talihina in the first round of the Class 2A boys state tournament at Oklahoma City University.

The trio combined to score all but 11 of Latta's points. Johnson led all scorers with 20 points, while Storts finished with 15 points and Collins with 12.

Latta got off to a slow start offensively, but started attacking the basket in the second quarter to turn a 12-9 lead after the first quarter into a 29-12 halftime lead.

“We were settling for 3-pointers early on,” Latta coach Donnie Husband said. “We were just amped up and trying to do too much to get a lead. Once we started to attack and get in the lane in the second quarter, the shots starting falling.”

Talihina didn't go away quietly in the second half. The Golden Tigers used a full-court press to go on a 13-4 run to end the third quarter and cut the Latta lead to eight.

Latta put the game away for good after Storts converted a 3-point play with an acrobatic layup while being fouled to push the lead to 14 with 2:25 remaining.

Talihina was led by senior Clark Austin, who finished with 15 points.
