Oklahoma scene: OU's Lauren Chamberlain, Shelby Pendley combine for 5 homers
Sooners manhandle Northern Colorado and Drake at Marita Hynes Field in Norman.
Lauren Chamberlain hit three homers, and Shelby Pendley added two on Friday as Oklahoma coasted to a pair of softball wins Friday at Marita Hynes Field in Norman.
Pendley hit both homers and finished with seven RBIs to help the Sooners rout Northern Colorado 14-0 in a five-inning game. Chamberlain, who had one homer against Northern Colorado, slugged two more during the Sooners' 10-2 victory over Drake.
Chamberlain has a team-high 11 homers for the season. Pendley, a transfer from Arizona, has five. Georgia Casey added her third for OU (20-1), which plays Northern Colorado at 11 a.m. and Drake at 1 p.m. Saturday.
COWGIRLS WIN TWICE
Simone Freeman and Kat Espinosa threw complete-game shutouts Friday as Oklahoma State beat Santa Clara (Calif.) 9-0 in five innings and Northern Iowa 1-0 in seven innings at the Mizuno Classic in Stillwater. Freeman and Espinosa allowed a combined five hits and no walks while striking out 11. Samantha Chrisman and Taylor Woodwall homered for the Cowgirls (9-12).
OSU will play Cleveland State at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
OU ROWING SATURDAY, SUNDAY
The Oklahoma rowing team will host the fourth annual OU Invite ON Saturday and Sunday on the Oklahoma River. Racing Saturday runs from 8 to 11 a.m. and 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. On Sunday, racing continues from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Six teams — the Sooners, Tulsa, Minnesota, Kansas, Kansas State and Central Oklahoma — will compete in the Invite, which begins at the Exchange Boathouse, 1409 Exchange Ave. in Oklahoma City.
