POTEAU — Authorities say an eastern Oklahoma woman severely injured in a January house fire has died — and her death is being investigated as a homicide.

LeFlore County Undersheriff Kendall Morgan says 47-year-old Myrtle Cooper died Thursday at a Tulsa hospital. Authorities say Cooper was critically injured in the Jan. 21 fire at a home in Spiro.

Morgan tells a local newspaper that Cooper suffered severe burns in the fire — but that she also had multiple cuts and skull and facial fractures.

Authorities say 39-year-old Elec Cusick is being held in the LeFlore County jail on complaints of kidnapping and assault and battery with a deadly weapon. Morgan says those charges could be upgraded, depending on autopsy results.

Morgan says the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
