Mom arrested after eluding police, endangering child

A mother was arrested on drug and child endangerment complaints after she fled an Oklahoma County sheriff's deputy, according to a sheriff's report released Monday. Tonya Ann Chatham, 25, was arrested Saturday following a vehicle pursuit that ended near Interstate 40 and Scott Street. The deputy noticed a woman sitting in a Jeep parked in the middle of the street and attempted to speak with her. She took off and drove in a reckless manner at speeds in excess of 100 mph, according to the report. During the pursuit, she tossed a syringe out of her vehicle. Deputies recovered the syringe and found it contained a liquid consistent with heroin. Chatham admitted to injecting heroin, according to the report. Once she stopped, deputies found the woman's toddler in a car seat in the back seat. The child was placed in state custody. Chatham was booked into the Oklahoma County jail on complaints of eluding an officer, child endangerment, driving under the influence of drugs, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and throwing litter on a highway. She was released Sunday on $17,500 bail.
