Clark, who signed with Oklahoma State in November, was selected for the honor for the second straight year, the organization announced Thursday.
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound senior point guard led the Trojans to a 26-4 record and their fourth consecutive Class 4A state title this season. He averaged 36.8 points, 13 assists, six rebounds and 5.7 steals per game while shooting 94 percent from the free-throw line. The Oklahoman's state tournament MVP for the second straight year, Clark scored 51 points in an 82-80 win over Roland in the 4A title game.
Clark has maintained a 3.59 GPA in the classroom. He volunteers locally as part of an elementary education literacy-outreach program.
“Stephen Clark is a player who just cares so much, not only about the things that he does on the court, but also about bringing out the best in his teammates,” said Douglass coach Anthony Andrews. “That's a rare sight to see. He's just so much fun to watch and he really brings so much excitement to the floor.”
Putnam City's Xavier Henry (2008-09), Midwest City's Shelden Williams (2001-02) and Brandon Loyd (1994-95) are the only other two-time winners of the boys basketball award in Oklahoma.
BURLINGTON'S TURNEY RETIRES
Just a couple months after winning his 600th career boys basketball game, Burlington coach Randy Turney has decided to retire.
“I have two daughters who are coaching now, and I don't really get a chance to watch them,” said Turney, who made his retirement official last week. “One of my daughters (Tasha Diesselhorst at Pond Creek-Hunter) coached at state, and I didn't get to see it because we were at state, too.”
