Paul McCartney on “The Late Show with David Letterman”

Macca returned to The Ed Sullivan Theater on Wednesday, sacred ground in the Beatles history, to play an extended set for Dave. The “Peter Gunn” interlude on “Coming Up” was a nice touch. This is basically the same band he had with him at Ford Center seven years ago — Abe Laboriel Jr. is a monster on the drums, and Paul played for about three hours with few breaks, mainly just to get some water. Even in his late ’60s, few people can match this man. If you can make it to the BOK Center on Aug. 17, by all means do so.
The set:
“Coming Up”
“Band on the Run”
“Let Me Roll It”
“Helter Skelter”
“Back in the U.S.S.R.”
