WISH UPON A STAR

Event: Sixth Annual Wish Luncheon.

Where: Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club.

To benefit: The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Oklahoma.

What: A crowded room of guests made the rounds of the room bidding on handbags, accessories and gift baskets. Traditionally, items are donated by boutiques, individuals and celebrities. Some of the donors this year were Ann Hargis, Becky Switzer, Carrie Underwood, Lauren Nelson, Mary Hart, Miranda Lambert, Ree Drummond, Sherry Brooks, Shirley Jones, Trisha Yearwood and Wes Welker. Meg Alexander welcomed the crowd and honorary chairman Brooks spoke. Wish recipient Lorelei Decker spoke about her ongoing battle with cancer and how thrilled she was to be a recipient and get a chance to interact with the Thunder players and coaches. A live auction followed before lunch was served.

Money raised: $60,000.

Event committee headed by Brooks: Angela Cox. Shannon Edwards, Courtney Eilerts, Becca Giles, Lauren Grady, Kandy Hadley, Lenice Keim, Laura Meyers, Whitney Moss, Jessica Ockershauser, Shannon Presti, Allison Williams.

WOMEN WHO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Event: 55th Annual Byliner Awards Dinner.

Where: Skirvin Hilton Hotel.

Presented by: The Oklahoma City Chapter of the Association for Women in Communications.

To benefit: Proceeds provide scholarships for collegiate women pursuing communications-related degrees at Oklahoma colleges and universities as well as education programming to AWC members.

Special: Joan Gilmore was given a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Others receiving awards: Brenda Jones Barwick, Carol Jean Gray, The Honorable Noma Gurich, Denise Northrup, The Honorable Reta Strubhar and Marnie Taylor.

LENDING A HAND

Event: Impact Oklahoma Membership Recruitment Reception.

Where: Rococo Restaurant, Northpark.

About: Since its inception in 2005 Impact Oklahoma has awarded nearly $2 million in grants to nonprofit organizations in central Oklahoma. The number of grants given annually by Impact Oklahoma is contingent upon the number of members who join. One hundred percent of membership dues goes directly toward grant awards. The goal is to secure 500 members annually in order to allow the number of $100,000 grants to increase to five.
