Oklahoma scene: Oklahoma's Jacob Evans named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week

Freshman reliever picked up a win and a save last week for the Sooners.

Oklahoma freshman relief pitcher Jacob Evans is the Big 12 Baseball Conference's Newcomer of the Week.

Evans was selected Monday after picking up a win and a save last week while throwing 8 2/3 innings of scoreless relief and racking up nine strikeouts.

Evans got the Sooners out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth inning of Saturday's win over TCU to pick up the save — then threw two scoreless innings on Sunday to pick up his fourth win of the season.

Oklahoma (22-4) visits Oral Roberts at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.


The Oklahoma State baseball team returns to action at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Eighteenth-ranked OSU (19-4) hosts Central Arkansas (18-6) at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium. The Cowboys are coming off a two-game split with Baylor in a weather-shortened series.


Game times for the No. 1 Oklahoma softball team's doubleheader at Wichita State on Wednesday have been pushed back.

The games against the Shockers will be played at 4 and 6 p.m.

Oklahoma (28-2) holds a 39-7 advantage in the all-time series with Wichita State (12-15, 3-2 Missouri Valley Conference), including a 9-4 mark in games played in Wichita.


Oklahoma State's equestrian team will be the No. 1 seed at the 2013 Big 12 Equestrian Championship. The event is scheduled to take place March 29-30 at the Animal Science Arena in Stillwater.
