The Lord has brought another Great Sooner QB home. Condolences to the family.

The excitement surrounding Sooner football in the early 1970's is impossible to explain to someone who didn't experience it. Steve Davis is the best example I know of what that period repesented in Oklahoma. Arriving at OU as just another good athlete, Steve immediately emerged as the unique leader of the teams he played on. Most players are remembered for what they accomplished on the field. Steve, however, will always be remembered for his leadership and what he stood for 'off' the field. I vividly remember a clip of Steve delivering the morning message at a church. After seeing the stand he took 'off' the field, what I saw him do on Saturday afternoons meant all the more. For going on 60 years now, I've had a love affair with Oklahoma football, and have had the pleasure of watching and getting to know personally some of the greats. Steve Davis will forever stand out in a very special way for 'who' he was as much as for 'what' he was. It's doubtful that another like Steve will come our way again. Thank you Steve for the legacy you left us.

I was priveledged to be a student at OU during Steve Davis career at OU. That entire team and coaching staff is a testimony to overcoming adversity and far exceeding expectations - the pundits said they were not going to be very good and were expected to lose 3 of there first 5 games we all know what happened. None exemplified this more than Steve Davis. We will always remember you. God Bless.

The first OU quarterback I remember growinf up was Jack Mildren and I thought he was incredible until Steve Davis took the helm. Later when I had a chance to meet Steve I realized how much greater he was off the field. My heart felt condolences to his family and fans. We'll miss you #5 God Bless.

My sympathy goes out to Sooner nation and to the family of a great man - Steve Davis, one of the best there ever was.
Stephanie Kuzydym learned at a young age that life is a game of inches. That's just one reason why she loves football. Kuzydym joined The Oklahoman in July 2012 as a Sooners beat writer.
Before arriving in Norman, Kuzydym was an intern for the sports departments at USA TODAY, the Orlando Sentinel and South Bend (Ind.) Tribune. She was also sports editor of her college paper, the Indiana Daily Student.
Kuzydym is from small town Indiana. She graduated from the IU School of Journalism at Indiana University in May 2012.
